Uriyadi 2026
The temple trust at Sri Venkatesa Perumal Kovil has published the official invitation for the 2026 Uriyadi Utsavam. The festival runs for eleven days, from Friday, 28 August to Monday, 7 September 2026. Uriyadi Thirunaal, the day the uri is broken, falls on Saturday, 5 September.
The schedule
Through all eleven days the temple holds a Srimad Bhagavata Saptaham, a Chaturveda Parayanam of all four Vedas, and the Tharangini Geeta Sampradayam — the singing of Sri Narayana Theerthar’s Krishna Leela Tharangini, the work he composed here at Varagur. Sri Venkatesa Perumal and Sri Anjaneyar receive a special alankaram morning and evening. Each night around 7:00 pm there is Sampradaya Bhajanai with Divyanama Sankeerthanam.
Three days carry the weight of the festival.
Friday, 4 September — Sri Krishna Jayanti. At midnight, on Ashtami tithi under the Rohini nakshatram, Janmashtami is observed with deeparadhana and prasadam.
Saturday, 5 September — Uriyadi Thirunaal. This is the main day. In the early hours the Lord comes out in the Vennai Thazhi (butter-pot) alankaram and is taken through the village streets with the bhajan party, followed by Sahasranama archanai, deeparadhana, and the distribution of mahaprasadam. At 5:30 in the evening, at the Kalinga Nartana Mandapam, Sri Rudra Japam is chanted during a special Maha Abhishekam. Near midnight the Lord is placed on the silver shield (velli kedayam) in a special alankaram: Sri Devi sameta Sri Akhilandakoti Brahmanda Nayakan, bearing the raja sengol, is carried in the royal procession, and the uri is broken.
Sunday, 6 September — Rukmini Kalyanam. The celestial marriage of Sri Rukmini and Sri Krishna is performed at the temple.
Monday, 7 September — Bhakta Utsavam. The festival closes with the utsavam held in honour of the devotees.
On the Uriyadi day, at the Sivalayam — the Sri Maha Kailasanatha Swamy Kovil — Vinayaka, the Lord, Ambal, and Subramanya each receive a special alankaram.

04-09-2026 வெள்ளிக்கிழமை இரவு 12.00 மணி அஷ்டமி திதி, ரோஹிணி நட்சத்திரத்தில் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண ஜயந்தி — தீபாராதனை, ப்ரஸாதம்.
05-09-2026 சனிக்கிழமை உறியடி திருநாள். காலை சுமார் 12.00 மணியளவில் ஸ்வாமி வெண்ணைத்தாழி கோலத்தில் எழுந்தருளி பஜனை கோஷ்டியுடன் வீதியுலா வருவார். தொடர்ந்து ஸஹஸ்ரநாமார்ச்சனை, தீபாராதனை மற்றும் மஹாப்ரஸாதம் விநியோகம் நடைபெறும். அன்று மாலை 5.30 மணியளவில் காளிங்க நர்த்தன மண்டபத்தில் ஸ்ரீ ருத்ர ஜபத்துடன் விசேஷ மஹா அபிஷேகம் நடைபெறும். இரவு 12.00 மணியளவில் வெள்ளி கேடயத்தில் விசேஷ அலங்காரத்தில் ஸ்ரீ தேவி ஸமேத ஸ்ரீ அகிலாண்டகோடி ப்ரும்மாண்ட நாயகன் ராஜ செங்கோல் ஏந்தி ராஜ நடையுடன் வீதியுலா வந்து உறியடி வைபவம் நடைபெறும்.
மறுநாள் 06-09-2026 ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை ருக்மிணி கல்யாணம். 07-09-2026 திங்கட்கிழமை பக்த உற்சவத்துடன் உற்சவம் நிறைவுபெறும்.
உறியடி திருநாள் அன்று ஸிவலயத்தில் விநாயகர், ஸ்வாமி, அம்பாள் மற்றும் ஸுப்ரமண்யருக்கு விசேஷ அலங்காரம் நடைபெறும்.

How is Uriyadi at Varagur different from Dahi Handi?
Both come from the same Krishna legend, but the customs are distinct. Dahi Handi is the Marathi observance, especially associated with Maharashtra. Uriyadi at Varagur is a temple festival woven into ten days of utsavams, with Veda Parayanam, bhajans, Rukmini Kalyanam, and Annadhanam organised by the temple trust.
Who organises Uriyadi at Varagur?
The hereditary trustees of the Sri Venkatesa Perumal Kovil, together with the families of the village and visiting devotees. Accommodation and meals during the festival are provided by the temple trust out of its revenues.
