Sri Maha Kailasanatha Swamy Kovil
Sri Maha Kailasanatha Swamy Kovil is the Shiva temple at Varagur. It is the village’s second principal temple, alongside Sri Venkatesa Perumal Kovil. The main street of Varagur runs from the Kathungalaaru brook in the north down past the Pillayar temple and its pond; just beyond the pond stands the Kailasanatha kovil, before the Perumal kovil and the border deities Ayyanar and Peramanar.
The temple is one of the spiritual anchors of the village. Together with the Perumal kovil it has shaped the religious life of generations of Varagur families, both those who live in the village and those who have moved to other parts of India and abroad.
Kumbabhishekam
The most significant recent event at the temple is the Arulmigu Sri Maha Kailasanatha Swamy Kovil, Sri Venkatesa Perumal Kovil, Jeernottharana ashtabandhana Maha kumbabhishekam — the consecration ceremony that renews the temple’s sanctity after structural restoration (jeernottharana) and the application of the eight ritual binding agents (ashtabandhana). The kumbabhishekam was conducted jointly for the two temples. The invitation and pooja schedule are preserved on the Utsavams page.
Photographs and notes
We are working with families and trustees who have photographs and records of the temple to publish a full architectural and historical account on this page. If you have photographs, records, or family memories of the Kailasanatha kovil — its festivals, its priests, or its physical structure over the decades — please share them.
